Republicans have been on a slow decent towards having the government fix stuff just to win votes, just like the Democrats. The conservative right won't vote for that nonsense so it's still possible for Republicans to lose.
The messaging from Republicans needs to be that cutting taxes is what makes it more affordable, not trying to fix housing. Biden made it unaffordable as well, and that messaging needs to persistent.
