I was figuring they used round nose because of penetration. The idea is to take out as many as possible with one shot. Hollow point is imperative for personal protection.
The only downside I can see is if the US Army starts using it on a regular basis, then we can't complain if our enemies start using them and inflicting serious injuries to our troops.
