The elephant in the room; discussion

HEY 9, THAT WASNT THE SENTIMENT IN THE 60'S. THATS TODAYS PARENTAL THOUGHT PROCESS THOUGH. CANT TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I'VE HEARD ON TV WHEN SOMEONE IS SHOT AND KILLED BY POLICE, WHAT A GOOD KID HE WAS AND DIDNT DESERVE THAT. WITH A RAP SHEET 5 PAGES LONG.

I know, was just giving Greg some :Poop:. I can't imagine dealing with that.

Wait a minute... long hair, tye dye shirts, plays guitar, supports Mary J. How the hell did a hippie like Greg wind up a conservative?!! :Roflmao:

BY THE TIME I HAD LONG HAIR, AROUND '73, THINGS HAD LOOSENED UP QUIT A BIT. BUT ANY DISPUTES WE HAD, WE SETTLED WITH KNUCKLES.

EVERY NOW AND THEN SOME CLOWN WOULD SHOW UP WITH A CHAIN OR MAYBE PULL A KNIFE. NOT VERY OFTEN THOUGH. AND USUALLY THOSE GUYS WERE JUST SCARED TO GET HIT.

I grew up and matured.

That doesn't work either, what about the Military guy that just did the same thing.
It comes down to the mental health of the individual, and how they were raised.

What I've said before, around here anyway. When I was in high school, half the kids would drive a pickup to school and have guns in a rack on the rear window. It was as common as bell bottoms to see trucks and guns in the parking lot. No school shootings. Pretty much uneventful days passed. We had an open campus where we could take off for lunch and go fuck around a bit. Never a problem. Yeah, I was one of the rebellious fuckers who would protest the Nam war and shit, but still pretty much uneventful . WTF happened?

For one, they've taken all the fun out of being a kid. They're expected to be perfect little adults without being taught HOW to deal with lifes ups and downs. If they're too active and you know, acting like a kid, better label them ADD and put them on drugs! A 5 year old tries to give a girl a kiss and he's labeled a sex offender for life? Push and push them to score high on standardized testing to be sure the school gets all their money! Everything else, to hell with it, we don't get paid to teach them how to think/reason on theor own. Teach to the test! The adults have lost their fucking minds is what has happened. These kids don't know any better.

You pretty much nailed it, right there. Using kids for income and allowing electronics to be babysitters are two major factors. I think being offended and setting bad examples of tolerance is another. The same old shit. If you don't like the program on TV it's good enough to just turn the channel. They have to try to get it banned. A lot of shit has to change before we can try to get back to post WWII serenity. In other words, it isn't going to happen.

I don't always agree with Jack Baruth but this is spot on. He's a car guy who writes for Road and Track and other various auto magazines. He often makes opinions on current events.

And tge gist of the article for tldr,

He's basically saying that the problem stems from fatherless children, and one if the reasons we have fatherless children is that the media is telling women to be happy instead of working it out with their husbands or partner.

I do not know if I entirely agree with his causations, but I will say this. Women often complained how porn gave men unreal expectations about sex. But in today's society, I believe the media is selling women on completely unreal expectations for theut relationships with men.

Greg, you have been carrying sense before I was a spot in a daddy's drawers :Roflmao::Roflmao::Roflmao::Roflmao:;)

I've had a concealed weapon since 1971. Staring in 1968 I was traveling in a band and we toured many states and parts of Canada. Do you have any idea what it was like for a bus load of kids with hair down to their asses and bell bottom jeans back in 1969? We'd go into eateries only to be told to get out because the other customers wouldn't understand. Or, when we did find a place to serve us we'd hear things from across the room like "Throw their slop in the middle of the table and let them gobble it up like the fucking pigs they are". We'd come off the stage after a gig and pack up our shit, and while loading the bus we'd have a handful of tough guys hanging around threatening to cut our hair or maybe turn us into girls. We carried two loaded double barrel shot guns with us all the time and were forced to use them occasionally. We'd get to a motel (if we could find one to serve us) and be followed by some jealous fuckers because we always had a crowd of women around us. They throw bottles thru our bus windows and bang on our motel room doors. A few times we had rocks tossed thru our motel windows. Sometimes when we headed out of town we'd be surrounded by cars trying to throw shit at us or run us off the road. A couple of times when I was driving I actually pushed the fuckers right off the road and into the ditch. Not too many cars are a match for a 66 passenger 1963 International bus. When I'd had enough I bought a Colt .357 Trooper revolver to carry and kept it with me at all times. I cannot count how many times that weapon was pulled because someone was extremely near being beaten. Yes, I was a bit unethical at times and actually forced a few of the tough guys to crawl away from us like the fucking snakes they were. But you can't say they didn't deserve it. So now I own a Glock 19 that is loaded with 16 rounds of plus P hollow points, a Glock 42 loaded with plus P hollow points, a .22 auto handgun loaded with hollow points, and a Mossberg 715T loaded with 25 rounds of hollow points. I have about 3000 rounds of ammo in the house. And last Thanksgiving I caught someone attempting to steal two turkeys from my car so I pulled my Glock 42 from my pocket and held the dirty little fucker until the cops showed up. Cop told me I did a good job. So, yeah, I carry a fucking gun because I'll tell you what. I'd rather have one on me ready to go and never need it, than to need one and not have it. If the latter happens it's too late.

HE is right,

Not that it is just the Fatherless family, it is the family unit as a whole.
Even a fatherless family back in the day had a strong mother that kept her kids in line,
or had other family members to help while she worked......

There needs to be discipline from both parents if there are 2, and the single parent if there is 1.
Right now there is none, and the boy in FL is the perfect case, he was living with a friend.

As Greg said, they just sit and play games, watch TV, and sit on the phone.
They don't even play face to face with their friends, so there is no conflict resolution skills learned,
or interaction skills learn.....

"Just Texting with my thumbs", to quote Boondocks :)

We didn't have a lot of choice back then. It was be prepared or be beaten or worse. We must have caught them all off guard...a band of piece loving, earth protecting, war protesting hippies with a couple of loaded shot guns. Wish we had cell phones back then. The looks on some of those faces were priceless.

The FBI received several tips that should have put Nikolas Cruz "in the crosshairs" but those tips weren't followed up.

Now, think about it. If the tipsters had reported that Cruz heard someone with a Russian accent talking about Trump, Comey and the FBI would have instantly sprung into action, and seventeen people might be alive today.

Now students are walking out of school because there arrare any changes to gun laws.

Amendments we're were put in place for a reason, and voting to add or repeal one is hard. The reason is so we don't legislated from the hip. We take a stand back and make sure it's what we really want to do.

Interesting take is that if the amendment was repealed, gun control should fall to the states.

If so that's only because an investigation is already in progress.....

The point here is the authorities, FBI, Police, never initiate investigations when they should. They tend to blow things off.
We just had a guy here in Columbus about a week ago shoot his wife/girlfriend in front of their child because they had an argument.

She had filed restraining orders, and filed domestic abuse reports for over a year, but they didn't do anyting....

Well, we see what happened.

Livespive, that is the very argument FOR guns... if the police/authorities won't protect you, you have to do it yourself.
