AUSTRALIA: MORE VIOLENT CRIME DESPITE GUN BAN
April 13, 2009

It is a common fantasy that gun bans make society safer. In 2002 -- five years after enacting its gun ban -- the Australian Bureau of Criminology acknowledged there is no correlation between gun control and the use of firearms in violent crime. In fact, the percent of murders committed with a firearm was the highest it had ever been in 2006 (16.3 percent), says the D.C. Examiner.

Even Australia's Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime:

  • In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
  • Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
  • Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
Moreover, Australia and the United States -- where no gun-ban exists -- both experienced similar decreases in murder rates:

  • Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America's rate dropped 31.7 percent.
  • During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
  • Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
  • Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
  • At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
  • Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women.
While this doesn't prove that more guns would impact crime rates, it does prove that gun control is a flawed policy. Furthermore, this highlights the most important point: gun banners promote failed policy regardless of the consequences to the people who must live with them, says the Examiner.

On that note, we may as well turn to socialism. Just because it has NEVER worked in the history of the world, doesn't mean it won't work here. Could try bringing in a Hitler. Just because massive genocide .....oh wait. That won't work. Let's try a Mussolini...uh, nope. How about another Castro....oh, nevermind. Maybe Stalin.....uh.....

On a serious note, those stats are legit and accurate. Fewer guns= higher crime rate.

Only dictators and those not understanding freedoms want total gun bans, or much stronger regulation. My point was simple. The first thing all these dictators did was remove the guns from society. Next step? total domination. MILLIONS killed.

Let's keep doing the status quo....we will just absorb the human cost. ;)

We go down this route, the answer is no, we go down this route, the answer is no, go down this route, the answer is no.......

The only thing I can think of is that you all have to think I'm retarded or something. If I'm wrong on 100% of my policy proposals regarding this subject, you have no other option than to think I'm totally retarded.

Again, I'm not the politically popular argument at the moment.....so you guys are getting what you want.

I'm all ears if you have a good viable solution to the mass killings without infringing on MY rights to keep and bear arms. None of my posts were meant to be facetious or condescending. I'm absolutely serious when I ask someone to come up with a solution that will actually be effective without being ridiculous. We know a total gun removal is in the ridiculous column. We also know extremely strict gun laws DO NOT work simply because criminals don't obey laws.
I've asked numerous times how taking MY guns away could impede those who do not follow the law, and I have yet to get a legitimate response. So, with the fear of being redundant I ask; What is your suggestion to stop the killing without being ridiculous?

In case you haven't noticed we already a socialist country. Or would you prefer not to have paved roads, schools, fire and police, etc., etc., etc.
No, we are still a capitalist society. We still have private property and business, even tho Bam Bam tried his best to take over corporations. Our freedoms have prevailed. The means of production is upon the people.
