Police in Aspen, Colorado, are hoping to sniff out the person who left a bag of cocaine at an Aspen grocery store.
The tiny bag of powder was found July 5 on a self-checkout register at an unnamed grocery store.
Local police hope that whoever left the bag won’t turn up his or her nose at their kind offer to come to the station to retrieve it.
They explained as much in a tongue-in-cheek (as opposed to nose-on-mirror) Facebook post:
“Have you ever returned from the grocery store, emptying out your bags only to find out that something didn’t come home with you?
We often get back to the office, only to find 11 donuts. Surely, it was supposed to be a dozen. Either that, or the delivery driver took out his payment in sweet, sticky goodness.
Today a customer at a local grocery store found that a person before them (in the self-checkout lane) had actually left an entire bag behind. Now granted, it’s a really small bag ― note that the scale couldn’t even weigh it ― but we’re pretty sure they didn’t buy this at the grocery store. Even so, the owner of said bag probably really didn’t mean to leave it behind.
With the cost of white powdery substances these days, probably somebody got home and spent the next 15 minutes going through their pockets, over and over.
Now we really try to take care of lost and found property like it is our own, putting a lot of effort into returning iphones, wallets, passports, etc. But, if this is your property, we’re going to leave it up to you to come and collect it.”
