Ben Affleck is a horrible human being!

The Washington Post seems to think Ben Affleck is stupid for asking the PBS show "Roots" to not publicly reveal that his great-great-great grandfather owned slaves. I think he'd have been stupid NOT to try keeping that out of the public eye considering todays GET WHITEY climate in the media.

He's rich and white, shit he's already got two BIG strikes against him. He's the type of guy the media LOVES to destroy if given the chance, and unfortunately for Ben, it was delivered to them on a silver platter.

It's obvious that the actions of people three generations before him were directly influenced by Ben's own horrible racism! What a bastard! Brainwashing his dear great-great-great grandfather into hating people based on skin color, into thinking owning other people is a proper thing to do... Ben Affleck is a horrible, racist, confederate flag waving, kkk supporting, right wing tea party bigot! Right?

Poor guy... he was fucked no matter what he did the moment that information was discovered.

Yes, horrible for trying to use his money and fame to get something done. Regardless of what it is.
I myself don't like it when people do that.

Normally I'd agree with you on that. But given the current social climate, I don't blame him for trying to keep that tidbit under wraps.

I have no idea if any of my family was here or involved in the 1860's. But if I found out they were, AND one of them owned slaves, I sure wouldn't be in a hurry to tell anyone about it. And I'm a nobody. Being in the public spotlight just makes it worse.

The thing is, if you could go back far enough in almost everyone's family tree, you could probably discover both slaves and/or slave owners. When ancient nations warred, the losers many times became slaves or servants of the winners if they happened to survive.

Right.....

Also 9,

This was in the news way before any of this other stuff happened......

The media at work.
